Reader Comments on Who's Giving It A Go?
From: Ursula For : The Editor (for publication) Subj: an ex-FlyingPig responds, As an ex-FlyingPig I felt the time had come to comment on your commentary. The journalist licence has gone a little far... If FlyingPig is your "well-funded startup of a year ago" then I hate to break it to you but the points made come across as a cheap attempt at sensationalism.... 1. the "swank office suite in the city?" - was in reality a room of highly enthused employees working in close (crowded - in other words) surroundings. No doors, no walls, no special treatment for senior staff. 2. "Why work late on Friday night when you could be out clubbing and sharing your newfound wealth with the hotel proprietors of this world?" – IF ONLY! Hours worked by the FlyingPiggers were long and intense and there were times when my flatmates professed they failed to recognise me. Sorry Bruce, but in your zeal to celebrate the “little entrepreneur” you appear to miss the dedication, skill and intelligence that goes in to FlyingPig on a daily basis. From: Dave Dustin For : The Editor (for publication) Subj: Comments about eNeedle, Everyone seems to be making a fuss about this new online needlework store called eNeedle, without realising that there has been a better store for almost 3 years now. Needlecraft has been operating as a retail/mail-order business since 1981, and has had a full online shopping system, including secure-server checkout since 1997. While possibly not as flash and fancy as eNeedle, www.needlecraft.co.nz offers a huge range of items, including fabrics (both quilting and needlework), patterns, accessories and much much more. And it was built without requiring hundreds of thousands of dollars. I would estimate less than $10,000 has been spent in TOTAL for the website, and has preformed well over that time with an average of over 500,000 hits per month... For more information, please feel free to contact myself (the coder behind the system) or the company directly (Needlecraft Distributors Ltd, stitches@needlecraft.co.nz / 0800-909-600)Now Have Your Say
