I think the explanation lies in culture and social
practices.

New Zealand isn't (and maybe won't ever be) a big
information producing country.

The US is a very open, sociable, and liberal country, far
more than NZ is (and may ever be.) There are information
products in that country that that we wouldn't make, in
some cases, cultural reasons are the basis for this.

Digressing a bit, I once said to friend, "New Zealand is
not the type of country that starts an Internet yet we
participate in one."

I said that 3 years ago. He still hasn't commented. He was
born and raised here. He's 37.
