I'm afraid I'm talking politics today - although Kim Dotcom does get a mention.
My eyes opened wide with the hypocrisy of our beloved leader John Key this morning when I read an NZH piece that quoted him as saying "You've got a guy who can't buy a house in New Zealand, but he can buy a political party".
What?
Mr Key is suggesting that Kim's investment in forming a new political party is unethical or bad and that people ought not be able to do such things. Yet isn't it Mr Key and his cronies that have effectively put this entire country on the block -- handing key parts over to the highest bidder?
If Key has something against a foreigner buying a political party -- then how the hell can he sanction the sale of our state-owned power assets to foreigners (because that's where they're headed).
And how can he sanction the apparent sale of his minister's favours to whatever Chinese company is prepared to stump up with a decent meal on the way to the airport?
Then there is the sale of NZers right to sovereignty over their own intellectual property laws in the form of the TPPA.
Sadly, I think John has made a huge faux-pas in making the statement he has.
It exposes his duplicity and hypocrisy to all and indicates the two-faced, disingenuous attitude he has to the issue of who really owns and runs New Zealand.
It would seem that the National Party has far more unsavoury connections to "big money" than does the Internet Party.
Remember Sky City's convention centre and the shady dealing that was done over that?
Is it just coincidence that the government's John Banks is presently in court facing charges relating to his connection to big money in the form of Sky City and Kim Dotcom?
Key ought to remember that sage advice: Let he who is without sin cast the first stone and perhaps reflect on the fact that people in glass houses ought not throw stones. (how many more of these sayings can I squeeze in here? :-)
Instead of slinging mud, perhaps Mr Key would be better advised to get his own act together (no pun intended) and focus on the problems this country faces.
How about you get housing down to affordable levels.
How about you honour your contract with the people of Christchurch, many of who have been waiting *years* for relief from the EQC.
How about you tidy up local government and make sure that organisations such as CAA get their fingers out of their arses and do their jobs properly (wink).
But then again... it's always easier to simply try and slag your competitors than it is to lift your own game.
JK has *almost* convinced me to vote for the Internet Party later this year -- despite them choosing Laila Hare as leader and having links to Hone. Right now, JK is the Internet Party's biggest sales tool. Oops... did I use the word "tool" and JK in the same sentence?
Have a good Queens Birthay break everyone -- and drive safely if you're travelling.
