It's my last column for the year and, as I contemplated yesterday, time to prepare for 2025.
I will be doing an annual "predictions" column when I get back to the keyboard in January but based on what I read on the BBC website today, I have grave concerns for the USA in the year ahead.
If what I read was true, and let's face it the BBC is becoming about as reputable as the Daily Mail these days, real-life "Iron Man" Elon Musk is exerting an unhealthy degree of influence over his newfound buddy Donald Trump.
This could be the best thing ever to happen to the USA or it could be the worst -- only time will tell.
Meanwhile, in other news worthy of comment...
Practical nuclear fusion is now just a decade away; again; as it has been since the 1970s.
However, this time we're *sure* that's the case because, according to this CNN story:
"Virginia will be the site of the world’s first grid-scale nuclear fusion power plant, able to harness this futuristic clean power and generate electricity from it by the early 2030s"
Really?
Less than a decade to go from barely demonstrable in a lab setting to fully commercial, grid-scale implementation on a commercial basis?
Who's going to lose their shirt on that gamble I wonder?
Speaking of news, I rank NZ's Stuff website right up their with the Daily Mail and the BBC in terms of dross but now I only use anonymous browsing in a private window when visiting the site. Being constantly told by the site that I've read too many "free" stories and must now log in is ludicrous so now they've lost the ability to track me and target advertising at me.
I recommend everyone else does the same thing so as to send a message that their content really isn't worth the price of admission.
Idiots.
Finally today... don't forget to enjoy the next week or so. It's a time of the year when most people make an extra effort to be friendly and kind. If only this level of kindness and empathy could be the norm for the entire year, how much better the world would be.
I wish you and yours all the very best for the festive season and look forward to delivering your daily dose for another year, starting on the 6th of January.
Carpe Diem folks!
