of the Rings’ Movie Trailer on New Lord of the Rings/RealChannel

Promotional Partnership Between RealNetworks and New Line Cinema Will
Create Dedicated RealChannel Through Complete Release of Trilogy in
Theaters and DVD/Home Video

SYDNEY, January 22, 2001 RealNetworks®, Inc. (Nasdaq: RNWK), the
recognized leader in media delivery on the Internet, and New Line Cinema
today announced a significant four-year partnership to promote jointly the
much anticipated on-screen release of New Line’s epic adventure trilogy
based on J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings.

         The two companies have signed an agreement to create and promote
The Lord of the Rings RealChannelTM, as the exclusive online video
destination for all trailers, interviews and behind-the-scenes material
from the making of the three films.  The Lord of the Rings RealChannel,
available for free to all RealPlayer® users,  debut on January 19 at 12am
US PST with the Internet premier of New Line’s first theatrical teaser
trailer for The Lord of the Rings. Through the month of January, the Lord
of the Rings trailer will only be available via the RealPlayer and The
Lord of the Rings RealChannel.

About the Lord of the Rings Channel
The Channel will be updated weekly with RealAudio® and RealVideo®
interviews featuring the cast (Elijah Wood, Sir Ian McKellen, Cate
Blanchett, Liv Tyler), filmmakers (director Peter Jackson) and production
members of the trilogy making it the ultimate video destination for fans
worldwide as they eagerly await the releases of the live-action feature
films The Fellowship of the Ring (Christmas 2001), The Two Towers (2002)
and The Return of the King (2003).

The Channel will also be accessible directly from New Line’s website for
the trilogy: www.lordoftherings.net.

a web presence of the greatest magnitude  with a pure video showcase of

users of RealPlayer worldwide.  The Lord of the Rings RealChannel is our
answer.” Given the millions of Lord of the Rings fans worldwide,
RealNetworks and New Line Cinema anticipate unprecedented traffic to The
Lord of the Rings RealChannel.  The promotional partnership between
RealNetworks and New Line Cinema will extend until 2005 encompassing the
duration of the release of the trilogy in theaters as well as its release
onto home video and DVD.
