Coincidence Or Conspiracy?
Is it just coincidence that we've seen a number of high-profile NZ websites get a facelift in recent weeks?

The IDG NZ website got a makeover a week or so ago -- but unfortunately it seems to have sparked off a return of the crashes that plagued it earlier. Most mornings this week I've gotten a "connection refused" error or some obscure complaint from the webserver when attempting to view the site.

Now I see that the "award winning" NZ Herald site has been given a bit of a tart-up for some reason.

In both cases the changes are an improvement -- although I find it harder to spot the fresh content on the new IDG site -- maybe it's just that they're putting too much stuff that's only updated weekly on that vital front page.

Of course the news section of TV One's news got the face-cream and exfoliant treatment a few months ago and it's now a very nice news resource.

And, to top it all off -- NZ's own world-leading 7am.com news site is about to get a little more pancake and eye-liner early in the New Year.
Disclosure: Yes, I'm also associated with 7am.com

But have you noticed something... these are all news-related sites!

What is it that has prompted such a wave of reconstruction work in the arena of Net-based news publishing?

I don't know -- do you?

Vote In The Awards
You'll find last year's winners here and this year's voting form here.

Remember -- one lucky voter will be chosen at random to win a brand new Microsoft eunuch-Mouse (officially known as the IntelliMouse) with a cool ball-free approach to mouse maneuvering.
