Joining the recent rush of banks on the Web, ANZ today officially launches its New Zealand Web site.

Unlike the ASB FastNet or BankDirect sites, the ANZ offering is not an "online banking" service but simply a "brochureware" system designed to dish out over 100 pages of information on the bank's products and services.

Although the site is hosted in Australia, it appeared to run reasonably quickly when tested last week. This is at least partly due to a sensible use of graphics and good basic design.

It will be interesting to see whether the ANZ decide to migrate their Internet presence to include proper online banking services in light of rumours that at least two other New Zealand banks have such on-line systems planned for launch shortly.
