Following up on a theme discussed in this week's
Aardvark Weekly, it seems the interest
in [near] free Net access is growing, with a new entrant into
the market making their move today.
In the U.S., a company called bigger.net has announced it will be offering life-long Net access for a one-time fee of just US$59. As with the other "free-access" providers, bigger.net's service is advertiser sponsored with part of the user's screen dedicated to displaying ads while online.
Launching the service in the San Francisco Bay area initially, with plans to expand into a number of other major cities, bigger.net expects to have 100,000 subscribers[?] within six months.
