In response to the feature story in this week's Aardvark Weekly, Microsoft have replied that the quote used by NBR in its advertising and attributed to them was taken "out of context".

It seems that the phrase "New Zealand's most frequently visited Web site" was used only in reference to a very small sector of the market, namely those business or financial sites based on Microsoft server technology.

In this context it's very likely that the claims hold water, but it's also rather naughty of NBR to use the quote in this manner without any clear indication that it was so specific.

Just another case of excessive exuberance on the part of the advertising department?
