Political Friday: Irony

5 September 2014

I'm sure that all readers will recall how Cameron Slater showed contempt for the NZ courts and violated a suppression order to reveal the names of people protected by such rulings.

For his contempt, he was fined $750 on each of eight counts.

Now for the irony...

After showing his contempt and disregard for the ruling of the courts in respect to the illegal disclosure of information -- Slater is himself asking the courts to provide him with similar protection from those (including the media) who would spill the beans on his own nefarious activities.

Is this irony or hypocrisy?

According to media reports Slater is claiming that exposure of the information hacked from his computer would inflict a huge personal toll.

Um... don't you think that the same may have applied to the people Cameron Slater outed by breaching the court's suppression orders?

Oh.. but wait, apparently, those people deserved to suffer "a huge personal toll" because they'd broken the law.

Well excuse me but it's my honest opinion that the actions of Mr Slater, in deliberately setting out to become a "hired gun" to commit character assassination is a pretty nasty activity as well.

Slater claims however, that his breach of suppression orders is in a different league -- being something of a public service rather than what he refers to as "some form of revenge" on the part of the hacker who is spilling the beans on him.

Grow up Cam.

You've been caught out behaving like an utter bastard so don't go whining like a little school-girl to her mother because someone's giving back a little of what you've been dishing out for so long.

Take a teaspoon of cement and harden up man!

It is *very* clear that, in the lead-up to an election, the information being disclosed from the hack of Cam's computer is very much in the public interest and therefore ought not be subject to any form of suppression.

What's more, Mr Whale(sp)oil must be well aware that in this age of the internet, attempts to suppress information are futile. The NZ courts' jurisdiction only reaches to the limits of our shores and the Net is a whole lot bigger than that.

Perhaps Mr Slater would be well advised to spend some of the money he's presently throwing at lawyers on a decent dictionary that contains the words: ethics, morality, hypocrisy, and irony.

Ain't karma a bitch?
